About
I am a chartered clinical psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professions Council. I have over 20 years experience in both the NHS and private practice.
I work collaboratively with clients to get to the root of emotional difficulties in as short a time-frame as possible so they are able to overcome symptoms and reach their full potential.
I have a particular interest in working with clients with anxiety difficulties and treatment-resistant depression, as well as those diagnosed with physical health conditions such as auto-immune disorders, fibromyalgia and chronic pain. My therapeutic approach is based in the attachment-based model of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).
In addition to my psychotherapy practice I provide supervision and training in advanced psychotherapy skills. I have been a visiting lecturer on the clinical doctorate at the University of Hertfordshire, presented nationally and internationally at workshops and conferences and have published books and articles in the areas of trauma and ISTDP.
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy
Evidence based • Active approach • Techniques to accelerate positive change
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is an emotion-focused, accelerated form of psychodynamic psychotherapy.
ISTDP therapists take an active approach, focusing on physiological anxiety pathways as well as maladaptive coping patterns which have become habitual and fixed. The aim is to help clients process emotional blockages which cause symptoms such as anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.
This method of psychotherapy is practiced internationally and has an impressive evidence base. More than forty published research studies show this approach to be highly effective for a broad spectrum of patients, with benefits that continue and increase in long-term follow-up.
Therapy Enquiries
My office is in Amersham, Buckinghamshire and I also offer online consultations.
‘Block therapy’ is an option for clients who are travelling from overseas or from further distances across the UK.
The initial consultation is a longer session, lasting two hours. In this time I can get a thorough understanding of your areas of difficulty and you can get a clear idea of the way I work.
We can then decide whether to arrange further sessions and I can estimate the number of treatment hours required.
